Why Did We Name Our Homestead 'little g farm'?

In August of 2015, my husband and I sold our trendy little Houston Heights bungalow and made the decision to move to the country. We purchased a two story, 30 year old, larger, 'farm house' on about 4 acres in south east Texas. Now living in the small town of Manvel, (population 5,241,) we definitely have a better quality of life. Everyday that I pull into our long, gorgeous, oak tree lined driveway, I breathe in and out, and embrace the serenity of country living. I feel safe, and very happy to be home. Sometimes, I never want to leave!

We have more space and lots of land for all of us to run, play and embrace the great outdoors. We are tucked away, we have privacy, we are nestled among trees, we have a pond, and we back up to a lovely Bayou. We enjoy birds of all kinds, and have acquired more pets and animals and LOVE it. We have 10 chickens, 2 ducks, 2 rabbits, a cat, and of course, our original pets, 2 dogs - Parker and Otis. (That's 17 animals- only 83 less than Chip and Joanna Gaines have on their Homestead, Magnolia Farms - Ha!) We can't wait to have farm fresh eggs!

We are working on our garden almost daily. We have planted spinach, green onion, lettuce, kale, corn, and countless herbs and spices. We will be planting more vegetables and some fruit in a few days. We have lots of plants and flowers, and are anxiously waiting for our bluebonnets to appear in the meadow towards the back of the property. Everyday we read and learn more about self sufficiency, sustainability and homesteading. This has been the most fun and enriching journey our family has yet to embark on.

So why did we name our home and property "little g farm?" Well, a few reasons come to mind...
Our 14 month old daughter, Grace, is the center of our lives. She's truly our everything. How could she not be? Look at this face!  She's a tiny little thing, always has been, and she's our little g..

The letter 'G' has more meaning, because of our last name, Gerszewski. It is a strong and powerful family name. Though puzzling to pronounce, I am happy to be a Gerszewski, and thankful to be part of the family that came along with marrying my husband. I am even happier about our own little family and pray that it will continue to grow.

When we first moved here, the home and property seemed spacious, but now having lived here 7 months, we already know that one day, (maybe in retirement,) we will move to a larger plot of acreage and that will be BIG G FARM. We dream of 20 plus acres, and maybe even 40! For now, we happily live on 'little g farm' and are so grateful and elated to call this place home. So that's how we chose the name..

We currently rent the property on occasion to photographers for photo shoots. One day in the near future, we will sell farm fresh eggs. We may even sell our produce at the local Farmer's Market. Maybe we will also add a calf, goats and a horse to our farm down the road when the fencing has all been repaired, and Grace is old enough to help out more. We never imagined that this place would be an income property, but it actually is in a very unique way, and we feel a generous sense of joy in sharing it's beauty with other people. Every morning, there's an inspiring sunrise, and most evenings, a colorful and peaceful sunset. We look forward to making several decades of memories here.
